Why?

Without the backing of the mighty state funded machines of the Soviet, Hungarian & other Eastern Block athlete factories a UK paddler, Jeremy took gold in both the men's 500m & the 1000m world championships 1986, a feat which I believe no other has achieved & doing it beating the worlds' best including Csipes. The same year he also brought home 5 golds from the Commonwealth Games (remember the New Zealand Olympic Champions & the Ausies were pretty good). Injury meant he could not bring home the first GB Olympic medal. Without thoes injuries - who knows & we must remember the UK coaches and other support which helped it happen.
